The Pillars of missionhouse

Overarching Goal of the Missionhouse Pillars: A strong sense of community

The community will foster a sense of belonging and safety for all. Everyone has a place and a path to walk, as a community we will walk together with our friends through their darkest hours and times of triumph and celebration.

“If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honoured, every part rejoices with it.”

1 Corinthians 12:26 NIV

Pillar: A community of faith

At Missionhouse, there is prayer, worship, Bible study and the encouragement of genuine gifts of the Spirit. The fruits of the Holy Spirit are seen in the way that people live with and care for one another. At Missionhouse, people learn about God and have the chance to respond to his Good News.

Acts 2:42-47.

Pillar: A community of opportunity

At Missionhouse, a person’s past does not define their future or who they are today. The people who come to Missionhouse looking for a new start are helped to find a pathway to get there. Missionhouse is a community where people are mentored, new skills are taught and forgotten skills are rediscovered. Everyone has a chance to contribute to the community and people appreciate each other’s contributions.

1 Corinthians 12:12-14.

Pillar: A community of sharing

At Missionhouse, people share their time, their skills, their experiences, their feelings, their resources and their encouragement. Resources are used for the good of everyone and no one misses out. People look out for each other, successes and triumphs are celebrated together as people inspire each other with God’s word.

Acts 4:32-36.

Pillar: A community of joy and creativity

At Missionhouse, in spite of the difficulties that are encountered both personally and corporately, there will be cultivated an underlying and persistent feeling of joy. People express this joy creatively, using the gifts that God has given them, in music, art, stories and drama.[1]

[1] “Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” Nehemiah 8: 10. “And on that day they offered great sacrifices, rejoicing because God had given them great joy. The women and children also rejoiced. The sound of rejoicing in Jerusalem could be heard far away.”

Nehemiah 12:43 NIV

Pillar: A community of change

God is the primary change agent. At Missionhouse, people experience the joy and the challenge of being made new. With prayer and support, people discover that they are able to overcome the mistakes, poor choices, bad habits and illnesses that have characterised their pasts. At Missionhouse, people find salvation in Jesus that leads to lifelong transformation and growth.

Romans 8:1-4 and Romans 12:1-2

Pillar: A missional community

We realise that our fellowship with one another is a great blessing, joy and strength, but to keep this only to our own community would be forgetting that we are a missional people. Because we are a missional people we support and strengthen each other to share this good news with everyone that we meet. Our goal is to equip all community members to go into all the world, to their friends, family, workmates and acquaintances, living by example, teaching and giving them opportunities to experience the good news of Jesus.

Matthew 28:16-20

Pillar: A community of love

We realise that without love Missionhouse is nothing. We will learn together how to foster an attitude and climate of love. Love will be the glue that allows our relationship with God to grow as we grow closer to each other, learning through the mistakes as much as the triumphs how to love as Jesus modelled.

1 Corinthians 13
