Our Story

Established in 1997, Missionheart is a “Christian Faith Community” devoted to following Jesus, living an ever-deepening faith and spirituality in practical and grounded ways (full-on faith in fair-dinkum living). Missionheart is about relationships, not programs, and the belief that the power of God is at work today in the lives of those who faithfully call on Jesus Christ’s name and obediently submit to him. God can do far more than we could ask for, need or imagine.

Missionheart is working towards being a 24-hour church and highly values prayer, community gift-based ministry, unity, being genuine (down to earth, relevant and approachable) and finding freedom. Our vision is to see those who are oppressed, bound, ill, lonely, cast out, discriminated against, or who have lost hope; be set free, healed and able to recover to live a full life in Christ, loving God, others and themselves.

Missionheart believes in and relies upon Jesus Christ who, by the awesome power of His Spirit, works miracles today in and through the lives of people who will receive Him.

To be Jesus to the People of the City

This is our dream and our call. We are committed to pursuing Jesus’ best for the people we meet. We are committed to the people of Canberra.

Relational Ministry

Recently a visitor expressed that it is only when you come to Missionheart that you understand it properly. Just hearing about us doesn’t quite give you an understanding of why we do what we do. Being present with people is a prerequisite for showing God’s love. Jesus is not theoretical.

A Community in Service - not a Community Service

We are a community which prioritises intimacy with Jesus. The more we focus on Jesus, the more love we have for our people. First Jesus-based community, then service.

A Fingerprint of Love

We are called to leave behind a fingerprint of love on all we touch. Our challenge is to walk with God in each conversation so that he can guide our fingerprints. Each one of our friends is unique, and yet were all made by God to love and be loved – to benefit from community and enhance it.

“The Spirit of the LORD is upon me for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor.

He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free and that the time of the LORD’s favor has come.”

Luke 4:18-19 NLT
